Two years in the making and recorded around the globe in New York, London and Sydney the debut album for indigenous Aussie indie pop goddess Thelma Plum (Gamilaraay) finally arrives. She’s such a talent in waiting that Gang Of Youths’ Dave Le’Aupepe, Paul Kelly and Paul McCartney – yes, of The Beatles! – all helped Thelma out. An outspoken and self-confessed “drama queen” there’s plenty of mouthy moments here (“I’ll be my own Homecoming Queen/Forget all the shit that you see”). Album standout I’m Not Angry Anymore is a suitably cathartic anthem for our times (“I’m not perfect, I’m still learning”) and might also help Thelma garner the international acclaim she deserves. Your next Aussie pop diva just got significantly Better.
