DNA Magazine

FROM THE EDITOR.

Look out for #dnamag20 over coming months. What does it mean? Well, happy birthday to us!

- Andrew Creagh, Founding Editor ANDREW CREAGH

Sometimes when I meet people, they tell me their ‘DNA story’. A surprising number admit to stealing the magazine!

It’s DNA’s 20th year in 2020, and we have plenty planned to celebrate, including parties and a very special 250th issue in November. We’re throwing a big party in the heart of Sydney’s Oxford Street in September; our Christmas Pool Party will be bigger than ever, plus we’re hosting a Pool Party After Party.

The monthly edition of DNA is the work of a lot of people – writers, photographers, editors, models, and our loyal advertisers. But DNA wouldn’t be 20 years old/young without you, our readers. Whether you have a three-year recurring print subscription or a monthly digital subscription or you just visit our website and social media, it’s because of you that we exist.

I hope that you have as much sense of ownership of DNA as those of us who work on it.

Sometimes when I meet new people, and they find out I’m the Editor, they tell me their “DNA story”. Often it has to do with coming out and how helpful the magazine was when explaining things to mum and dad. A surprising number of people admit to stealing the magazine before they had the confidence to pay for it over the counter!

I’m often thanked for choosing a particularly cherished cover model, for publishing a relevant feature, or supporting an up-andcoming LGBTIQ performer. Recently, a couple I met told me they have the DNA calendar permanently open at a particular month that has since passed!

So I’d really like to include you in our 2020 celebrations and invite you to submit your DNA Story for the 250th issue.

How did you discover DNA? Which issues, photoshoots or stories have meant the most to you? Have you gone Digital or do you still prefer the Print version? Now is the chance to share your story with us and other DNA readers.

Send your written contributions (no more than 1,500 words please) to my email address: andrew@DNAmagazine.com.au

I look forward to reading them. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy our Men + Health issue. We have three very healthy men for you to appreciate: cover boy Cheyenne Parker (pictured), Roman personal trainer Riccardo Spiga, and New York physique model Joe Wachs.

Dr Joseph Brennan takes an in-depth look at the appeal of Greco-Roman wrestling – you might think the reasons gay men love watching this sport are obvious but there’s more to it than meets the eye. It’s a fascinating read.

I’d also like to draw your attention to our feature on Liberace. Sure there was glitz and glamour, but it was also complicated! Xav Judd takes a thorough look at his life and suggests we may need to re-evaluate Liberace’s standing in the LGBTIQ history books.

Another story I particularly want to mention is Cagedjock – yes, that’s his name. He’s our porn star interview this month and he has a great take on the “chastity fetish” scene and on being Asian in the adult entertainment industry.

Don’t forget to get working on your DNA Story, enjoy this issue and we’ll see you again next month.
