PETER BERLIN: ICON, ARTIST, PHOTOSEXUAL

Fifty years ago, before the sexy Insta-selfie, artist, model, and filmmaker, Peter Berlin led the way, turning the camera on himself in very intimate and sexualised ways.

He was born in Germanoccupied Poland in 1942 and his family was forced to flee to Berlin towards the end of the war. He grew up in Berlin but it was when he landed in postStonewall, pre-AIDS San Francisco in the early 1970s that his Peter Berlin persona fully emerged; a kind of real-life Tom Of Finland character.
