GERMANS STAND UP FOR NEARBY POLISH LGBT
Polish LGBT+ people are increasingly fearing for their lives as president Andrzej Duda ramps up his anti-gay rhetoric and galvanises the church and vast swathes of the population against the LGBT+ community, resulting in violence and calls for so-called “conversion therapy” clinics to rid the country of “sexual deviancy”.
To show solidarity with their LGBT+ Polish neighbours, German allies in the border town of Frankfurt an der Oder organised a protest, visible from the Polish side of the river that separates them. More than 2,000 demonstrators marched to stand up against Polish homophobia, attracting headlines in both countries and sending a strong message that LGBT+ rights are human rights.
