AMAZON UNDER FIRE Amazon comes under fire in the US for continuing to allow anti-gay hate groups to fundraise on its AmazonSmile platform. Activists say the tech giant currently lets around 40 organisations that oppose gay rights ask for donations using the site, with supporters donating as they checkout online. They say it goes against Amazon’s commitment to equality.
THE AUSSIE POSITION Grindr reveals which countries in the world have the most tops, bottoms and versatile users on its app – with Australians being firmly vers. The countries with the most tops are Morocco, India, Nigeria, Chile and Israel. Bottoms tend to be seated in Vietnam, Sweden, Thailand, Peru and South Africa.
HIV TREATMENT BY INJECTION A new, oncea-month injection of HIV drugs is approved for use by the European Union. Scientists call the ground-breaking treatment a gamechanger, as it will mean people living with HIV will no longer have to take daily medication, but can have monthly or bi-monthly injections to suppress the virus and maintain health. It’s hoped the treatment will be rolled out to other regions shortly.
WEDDINGS SLUMP It’s revealed that fewer gay men are getting married in Australia after the rush to get hitched following marriage equality. Studies say 15 per cent fewer gay couples took the plunge in 2019 than in the previous year. The statistics for 2020 are still pending but are expected to be way down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
HOLLYWOOD’S CROSSWALK LA’s uber-gay West Hollywood district updates its rainbow crossing to be more inclusive of the trans community and queer people of colour. The new crosswalk adds brown and black stripes, as well as the colours of the Trans Pride flag.
PORNHUB’S LOST VIDEOS Gay sex website Pornhub (okay, apparently they do straight stuff, too) stuns fans by removing more than 10 million videos overnight. The move follows an exposé by The New York Times, which claims the site allows unverified users to upload whatever they like, without checks. In response, Pornhub takes down all videos from unverified uploaders, leaving just the basics. Thirsty gay men in lockdowns around the world cry into their lap(top)s.
