As we see the days get chill­ier and the sun set ear­lier, it’s the per­fect time to spend a few hours in the kitchen.

For me, making the most of win­ter means slow­ing down, roast­ing gor­geous din­ners, making soups for lunches and bak­ing sweet treats. I love breath­ing deeply as the com­fort­ing aro­mas waft through the house, invit­ing friends and fam­ily. It’s the per­fect bal­ance for a busy life. My life is al­ways pretty busy, but lately it’s stepped up a notch, which makes time at home with my favourite peo­ple all the more im­por­tant. I’ve been dip­ping into the recipes from this is­sue for a few weeks now, from the test­ing stages through to shoot days and fi­nally see­ing them in print. And they’ve cer­tainly helped me ease into this win­ter weather, and even look for­ward to it get­ting cooler. For busy week­nights, we have pasta, roasts and speedy din­ners, as well as our amaz­ing cover recipes – three se­ri­ously easy soups. There’s plenty of com­fort food, too, from in­dul­gent meat-free mains (think pies, pasta and roast veg) to our de­li­cious up­dates of clas­sic meat­loaf (page 108). Lately I’ve been swap­ping co­coa for cacao, and our recipes on page 132 pair it with lus­cious co­conut – I hope you love them as much as I do, and that you en­joy get­ting cosy with all the recipes in this is­sue!
