Au­thor Rolf Bol­drewood be­gan writ­ing it when he came to Dubbo as Po­lice Mag­is­trate in 1881. His model for the char­ac­ter Sergeat Goring was Sergeant Wallings of the NSW mounted po­lice - the model for Starlight was the out­law Mid­night. From his Dubbo base, Wallings had hunted for an ac­tive gang of horse and cat­tle thieves since 1871. The gang op­er­ated be­yond War­ren. Mid­night was sus­pected of two mur­ders. In the at­tempt to cap­ture Mid­night, Wallings was shot and killed by him in Septem­ber 1878. This is Sergeant Wallings story. #36309 Pb $29.95
