State Vets cham­pi­onships to Co­bar pair

CO­BAR golfers Gary Wilkin and Richard Mclean ore NSW Vet­er­ans Four­ball Sand Green Cham­pi­ons fol­low­ing Sate Ti­tles held in Nar­romine re­cently.

Mclean, who lives in Bourke is a mem­ber of the Co­bar Vet­er­ans Club and a pre­vi­ous win­ner of the event, teamed with Co­bar mem­ber Wilkin to take home the Cham­pi­onship Shield in a con­vinc­ing win by ten points. The pair carded rounds of 41/38 for a to­tal of 79 sta­ble­ford points.

It was a suc­cess­ful day for the Co­bar Club, tak­ing the first three plac­ings in the event. Bill Fu­gar and Peter Brien were sec­ond on 69 points and Roy Ben­net and Max Phillips two points fur­ther back.

The Cham­pi­onships at­tracted a top field of 53 play­ers each day rep­re­sent­ing 14 Clubs from across the state.

Nar­romine Club Pres­i­dent, Bruce Mitchell wel­comed the vis­i­tors to the area and had the pleas­ing duty of pre­sent­ing a spe­cial tro­phy to Tam­worth golfer, Jeff Gar­raway who scored a hole in one on Satur­day af­ter­noon. Tour­na­ment Di­rec­tor, Norm Lewis paid tribute to the Nar­romine Shire Coun­cil and the NSWVGA for tro­phy do­na­tions, the Nar­romine lady golfers who worked tire­lessly over the week-end cater­ing and check­ing and record­ing the scores and re­sults, the bar­be­cue cooks and the Nar­romine vol­un­teer course cu­ra­tors for prepa­ra­tion and main­te­nance of the course.

“This is good, I don’t have to putt”! Hole-in-one win­ner Jeff Gar­raway of Tam­worth who aced the 18th. At 211 me­tres the 18th is the hard­est par three on the course.
