‘Pork barrelling’: is that good or bad?

-

I KEEP seeing the term “pork barrelling”

being slung around the political scenery.

It’s terminology thrown at politicians who

control the purse strings by politicians who

don’t; or it’s thrown by politically-motivated people at any politician who doesn’t

align with their own views; or it’s thrown

by anyone who – deep down – is jealous

when they see the grass is greener in another barrelling’ Check electorate. a dictionary is the art and of using it’ll tell government you ‘pork funds for projects designed to please voters and win votes. So isn’t that just a negative way of describing what we really want from our politicians? Don’t we put them in power to do their utmost to get the best possible services and facilities for our electorate, and if they don’t then we vote them out? In fact, if a politician isn’t pork barrelling (i.e. securing government funds for services that the community wants) then they’re going to get voted out in favour of a politician who can pork barrel! There’s two options: politicians should wear “pork barrelling” as a badge of honour, or we should save the phrase for when a politician spends money on something that’s completely selfish, or completely in their own self-interest, without any consideration for the wider electorate they serve. – Until next week, Keep Smiling!
