RSL 78s perfect start to 40th year celebrations
THE club that formed 40 years ago with 13 or 14 young men keen to forge a future has grown to include a junior nursery and very strong women’s teams.
Last week, in blazing heat, the ladies scored a 2-1 win over Dubbo FC to claim the Summer Seven-aside trophy.
78s came from a goal down to equalise just before half-time when Brooke Barber responded to Naomi Bowen’s early strike for the Bulls. Kahlee O’leary slotted the match-winner in a tightly contested final played in great spirit.
RSL 78s’ president Steffen Frandsen was impressed with Jorja Fuller and Thalia Stewart, two of the juniors who stepped up alongside the winter comp players.
“Kahlee’s return was also welcome; getting the winning goal made it all the more memorable,” Steffen said.
This season’s winter competition kicks off next month.
