Make it the most memorable day of your life

- By YVETTE AUBUSSON -FOLEY

MARRIAGE in Australia is the union of two people, to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.

This is the legal definition and something Dubbo-based civil marriage celebrant Andrew S. Appleby knows by heart.

Andrew is registered by the Attorney General’s Department and he loves the role he plays in a marriage ceremony, renewal of vows or naming ceremony, having performed hundreds since he started his business in 2003.

“My ceremonies are natural, relaxed and fun! I always remember this is their day, not mine, and I do my best to make it the most memorable of their lives,” he said.

Andrew does not limit himself just to ceremonies in Dubbo and is currently available to travel to Narromine, Gilgandra, Dunedoo, Wellington and Parkes and other surrounding towns throughout the region.

“I offer several different types of wedding ceremonies from the more traditional types including symbolisms such as hand fasting, unity candles and warming of the rings. I can create a very personal and unique ceremony just for you,” he said.

That also might mean overseeing a same sex marriage.

On December 9, 2017, the Marriage Amendment Act 2017 changed the definition of marriage and the right to marry is no longer determined by sex or gender.

“I’m happy to perform wedding ceremonies for everyone,” he said.

So, what does a civil marriage celebrant actually do?

Marriage celebrants are people who are legally allowed to perform marriages in Australia and as marriage is not just a bond of the heart but a legal contract as well, a civil marriage celebrant can help to explain and perform all the necessary legal requirements.

Prior to your wedding day, a celebrant will meet with you to exchange ideas for your ceremony and act as witness on your Notice of Intended Marriage, plus provide supportive resources and draft a ceremony plan.

On the day, the celebrant will bring agreed equipment such as a PA and signing table, conduct the ceremony and take care of legalities.

To find out more, call Andrew to discuss your dream day. He has years of experience and has seen what does and does not work, but knows that every ceremony is different. Every couple has their own way of doing things and he wants to know how he can help make your day the best it can be.
