For Matt it’s not a matter of height, it’s all about quality
MATT LOGUE, who served his early years writing sport for us at Dubbo Photo News, has been awarded the Most Outstanding Media Coverage gong for his coverage of the 2017/18 National Basketball League (NBL).
“I am honoured and humbled to receive this trophy,” Matt told me.
“I have been around basketball all my life. I was one of the little guys buzzing around the tall timbers making a pest of myself. Now I am a small bloke who hangs around the giants but instead of being a pest, I am helping to bring their incredible skills to the world,” he laughed.
Matt writes for the Daily Telegraph covering league, cricket and general sport, but it is his passion for basketball that has impressed the powers that be.
Platitudes have been received from officials at the NBL and the Sydney Kings who have granted the young journalist unprecedented access.
“I am very grateful. I have been welcomed with open arms and given unlimited scope to spend time with players, coaches and their families and officials have been very approachable.”
So ingrained has Matt become with the NBL that he was flown to the United States for the Sydney Kings’ historic clash with Utah Jazz.
“That was an incredible moment, the fulfilment of a dream,” Matt told me.
He is now planning to put pen to paper about his experiences and the development of the sport in Australia.
“I’ve been commissioned by Harper Collins to write a book on the Australians in the NBA plus the rise of Australian basketball. I’ll be interviewing all the current and former Aussie NBA players for a book that will be released mid next year,” was Matt’s excited text!
Well done young man. Your many hours on the road covering Group XI rugby league with me, and hours on the sidelines with Barry Hildebrandt at the Liberal, demonstrated your determination and drive to be the best you can be in your chosen field.
Matt will wed his sports-loving best friend Sami Farr in a couple of weeks.
They make a perfect couple!
