Not all regional flights are equal

way to get the state government to get this scheme pumping cash into the community, where it belongs. I KNOW that people living in regional NSW have to put up with paying premiums to airlines like Regional Express, but more than $500 for a flight from Dubbo to Sydney when they can fly you from Parkes to Sydney for just $99? Come on!

That happened this week and so I asked REX media for the reason. Here’s their response:

Dear John,

Thank you for your enquiry. Dubbo residents are not being charged exorbitant prices for flights compared to other regional centres.

In partnership with the Shire of Parkes, Rex introduced a $99 Rex community fare between Parkes and Sydney that sees the community fare made available outside of 30 days prior to departure subject to availability, in addition to all remaining unsold seats being made available within one day prior to departure.

The Rex Community Fare scheme is effective until June 30, 2022, which mirrors the five-year term of the partnership agreement between Rex and Parkes Shire Council.

In addition to the collaborative approach that exists between Rex and the Shire of Parkes, it also costs Rex more than three times more per passenger to use Dubbo airport than it does to use Parkes airport and this is reflected in the fully inclusive price as paid by the
