On Tuesday, police were appealing for public assistance and hoping that any family or friends of the offender do the right thing and dob him in.

“Often family members out of misguided loyalty don’t come forward,” was the message from Orana Mid-western police district crime manager Detective Inspector Rod Blackman when he addressed the media throng at the Dubbo police station steps on Tuesday.

“These things often happen with other family members knowing who the perpetrato­r is,” he said.

The offender is described as being of Aboriginal/torres Strait Islander appearance, about 165cm-170cm tall with a slim build and was wearing dark clothing.

Les was a stalwart of Dubbo’s Volunteer Rescue Associatio­n and gave countless volunteer hours including attending motor vehicle crashes, and freeing injured people who were trapped in the wreckage.

Les had a fall and went into cardiac arrest; paramedics performed CPR before transporti­ng him to Dubbo Hospital but he died a few days afterwards.

He was one of the driving forces behind the squad and will be sadly missed. firing a firearm at two people and an infant earlier this week.

About 11.30am on Sunday, March 11, police will allege two men were involved in a neighbour dispute at a property on Bundemar Street, Warren.

A 38-year-old man allegedly left and returned to the home armed with a shotgun before firing at a 35-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and an eight-month-old girl.

The baby was not injured however the man and woman suffered minor injuries and were taken to Warren Hospital and were released shortly afterwards.

Officers from Orana Mid-western Police District spotted the 38-yearold man in a maroon Ford Falcon sedan allegedly driving 120km/h in a 50km/h zone.

A police pursuit was initiated and ended at Warren Hospital where the man was arrested.

The car and firearm were seized for forensic examinatio­n.

The man was taken to Warren Police Station where he was charged with nine offences. He was refused bail and appeared before Dubbo Local Court on Monday, March 12, where he was refused bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday, May 23.

Inspector Dan Skelly said police were aware the assailant may still have been in possession of a firearm and were mindful that, due to his state of mind, could have potentiall­y used the firearm to evade capture.

“It was therefore necessary for the police to formulate a plan designed to bring about his capture safely and with a minimum of risk to the public and the police,” inspector Skelly said.

“This was done successful­ly when police, using their numbers, were able to surround the assailant and his vehicle, bring him to a stop, and employ special training to bring about the assailant’s arrest without injury.”
