Retiring to creature comforts at Oak Tree

- By YVETTE AUBUSSON-FOLEY

OAK TREE Retirement Village Dubbo is the newest facility to emerge on the city’s landscape, only adding to Dubbo’s potential for becoming a retirement destination.

Oak Tree directors were in Dubbo last week to meet and chat with potential residents who dropped in to see the development of Stage 1 for themselves.

Over 50 people attended a hard hat tour of homes and the community centre which features an inground pool and activity centre.

“We’re building 15 villas in Stage 1, and we’ve got the pool and a bowling green will run along the back of the community centre,” said Oak Tree’s Melissa Luck.

“There’s going to be a grassed area and that will have a big tree and feel lush. We’ll have parking for six caravans,” she told Dubbo Photo News.

Each villa is tailor made with aging in mind, Melissa added.

“The bathrooms are the most important room in a retirement village. The shower is designed for accessibility. Community home care providers can access this space to support them living here longer,” Melissa said.

“There are lots of drawers to prevent bending and stretching. The villas are designed with all doors wide enough for wheelchairs and recesses are integrated to reduce risk of slips and trips. You don’t have to compromise to downsize. It’s a comfortable size home. All appliances are included.

“In the master bedroom you can fit two king singles with bedside tables; although most residents have put in a queen bed, but a king will fit. There are fans throughout and air conditioning. They’re so well insulated. We maintain everything inside and out, so if you’ve got a wonky door or need a lightbulb changed, we take care of everything. We take care of all repairs and maintenance outside,” she said.

The first villas will be ready for occupancy in August and September. When the project is finished, there will be 79 homes. Enquiries to 1300 367 155.
