Ka­t­rina is a PE teacher at East­wood these days and uses the mes­sages from her first coach to in­spire oth­ers.

“It didn’t mat­ter what you were faced with, Ross told me you could al­ways over­come the dif­fi­cul­ties and get on with things. I think that’s what made us coun­try sports­peo­ple so strong, we just kept go­ing with what we had while the city kids seemed to have it all laid on!”

Ka­t­rina Gibbs (now Mor­row) has noth­ing but ad­mi­ra­tion for the man who is, with wife Jess, a spe­cial friend.

“Look at him, he’s sur­rounded by young­sters who hang off ev­ery word,” she laughed.

“Ross is still in­tro­duc­ing peo­ple of all ages to the joys of run­ning, throw­ing and jump­ing. He’s 87 and still very ac­tive, of­fer­ing ad­vice to kids and more ma­ture com­peti­tors and men­tor­ing ad­min­is­tra­tors.”
