PRIMARY school-aged children across the Dubbo LGA and Electorate will make those important steps towards a healthier future by participating in National Walk Safely to School Day on Friday, May 18.

The community initiative aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long-term well-being of children.

Apart from the physical benefits, regular walking also has a favourable impact on their cognitive and academic performance, organisers said.

In its 19th year, the event encourages primary school-aged children to build walking into their daily routine.
