Mr Schier was born and raised in Gil­gan­dra, at­tend­ing the lo­cal pri­mary and high schools be­fore study­ing a Diploma of Teach­ing at Charles Sturt Univer­sity in Bathurst.

Af­ter teach­ing for a year, he went into farm­ing and is cur­rently an in­de­pen­dent meat pro­ces­sor and the pro­pri­etor of Gil­gan­dra Poul­try, em­ploy­ing 12 staff.

He’s been heav­ily in­volved in the lo­cal com­mu­nity as the vice-pres­i­dent of the Gil­gan­dra Sport­ing Club, and the Pres­i­dent of the Gil­gan­dra Jockey Club for the past 22 years.

For the past nine years he’s also been the Chair­man of the Western Rac­ing As­so­ci­a­tion.

“I’m ex­cited about the chal­lenges ahead and am fully pre­pared to fight for the West,” An­drew said.

“It’s a huge hon­our to have been cho­sen and now the real work be­gins, get­ting out across an elec­torate the size of Ger­many.

“I be­lieve that the ed­u­ca­tion of our younger peo­ple in the region is a key com­po­nent which leads to im­proved out­comes in em­ploy­ment, health and fam­i­lies,” he said. scrap lead to be re­cy­cled.
