Music students to converge on Dubbo this weekend
A LONG weekend of learning for music students from across Australia will feature a concert for the general public this Sunday afternoon, June 10.
Called “A Winter Recital”, the concert will feature professional musicians performing alongside talented young musicians.
Visiting musicians include Laura Mcdonald, a multi-international piano competition winner, International Soprano soloist Kathryn Zerk, and International performer Masaki Nakamura on violin.
The concert will be run in conjunction with the Dubbo Winter Workshop, a three-day session for more than 70 violin, cello and piano students.
Dubbo Suzuki Violin teacher Alison Williams said students aged from 3 to 15 will be taking part in the workshop that will run over three days.
“During the workshop, students will take part in tutorials, master classes, orchestral rehearsals and enrichment classes, all of which are designed to improve their skills as musicians,” Mrs Williams said.
“The concert gives local violin students the opportunity to play alongside some of Australia’s most outstanding musicians, in a magical concert with works by Sarasate, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Saint-saens and many more.
“The whole weekend will be incredibly inspiring for the students, and I’m sure they will have great fun and learn a great deal as musicians,” Mrs Williams said.
The Dubbo Winter Workshop has been organised through the Dubbo Suzuki, which is a form of music education that combines instrumental teaching with a philosophy embracing the overall development of the child.
Proceeds from this concert will contribute towards creating opportunities for local children to engage in music workshops in Sydney and overseas.
