Welling­ton pe­ti­tion­ing for 24-hour polic­ing

A PE­TI­TION is cur­rently in cir­cu­la­tion in Welling­ton seek­ing sig­na­tures to put to the state gov­ern­ment in a quest to se­cure 24-hour po­lice pres­ence in Welling­ton.

“We de­serve the same re­sources as our coastal neigh­bours. It used to be that po­lice of­fi­cers lived in the town they worked. They’re a big part of the com­mu­nity while they’re on duty,” Welling­ton Busi­ness Cham­ber pres­i­dent Barry Jef­fery told Dubbo Photo News.

When in­ci­dences oc­cur at the Welling­ton Cor­rec­tional Cen­tre lo­cal po­lice have to in­ves­ti­gate, or if trans­fers to hos­pi­tal or court oc­cur it takes away from lo­cal re­sources.
