New Year Athletics Carnival runs a successful time

NOW in its 42nd year, Dubbo’s New Year Athletics Carnival didn’t miss a beat, beginning 2019 with plenty of action on the track and field.

Officially sanctioned by Athletics NSW this year, the annual event attracted more than 250 athletes who descended on first-class facility Barden Park on Friday, January 4, and Saturday, January 5.

The athletes of all ages travelled from across NSW, Victoria and Queensland, with many winning events and achieving personal best times on the fast-paced track.

With the competition ending at lunchtime on Saturday, many visitors to the city took the opportunity to take in some sightseeing and activities for the rest of the weekend.

While the event’s direction may change in the future, it is certain to continue being the breeding ground for young athletes for many years to come.
