Shirley be­lieves this photo comes from around the 1930s, and was prob­a­bly only half jok­ing when she com­mented that there are so many peo­ple in the photo that it must have been the en­tire pop­u­la­tion of Dubbo at the time!

The group is pic­tured in front of the New­town Progress As­so­ci­a­tion Hall in Ju­bilee Street. The sig­nage above the front doors dates the build­ing as a 1929 vin­tage. The his­tory books re­veal it as of­fi­cially opened on July 24 that year.

Shirley be­lieves it was the only hall in town at the time and so hosted a lot of school events. She also
