THREE Bens, a Bai­ley and a Dan fired on day one of the Whit­ney Cup sea­son.

Ben Semm­ler took 4/30 to dent the hopes of New­town, com­bin­ing with leg-spin­ner Marty Jef­frey (2/5) to dis­miss the pre­miers for just 108.

The swing bowler de­stroyed the ‘towns top or­der, while Jef­frey backed up to score 55 and earn first in­nings points. Colts re­sume with three wick­ets in hand and a five run lead on Satur­day.

Ben Stra­han blasted CYMS to a first in­nings win af­ter Bai­ley Ed­munds took 6/35 to skit­tle Souths. Skip­per Ben Knaggs chipped in with 3/5 then Stra­han belted 51 and keeper-bats­man Tom Coady 35 to have the Cougars well on top.

In the fi­nal match, Dan Med­way fell six runs short of a cen­tury, steer­ing Mac­quarie to 3/159. The Blues are al­ready 40 runs clear of Souths. Team mate Luke Car­men claimed 5/32 and Med­way him­self, 2/5.
