JOHN RYAN Motorbike theft

THERE are so many motorbikes being stolen around town lately and some of these thefts are pretty brazen.

Imagine the surprise from the people inside Grandeys Bike Bitz when a couple of blokes allegedly grabbed a KTM under the shop awning and did the bolt.

“I couldn’t believe how fast they were with a bike,” one witness said.

There’s a lot to this story but the blokes at the shop were super-thankful for a mass of people who helped them in the pursuit and apprehension of the crooks, many of them people who just happened to be driving past at the time.

And how crook is it that you need to have eyes in the back of your head every second of the day.

This follows a ram raid into the motorbike wreckers a few months ago. There are plenty of stresses when you’re in business these days.

Slow down, students about

WITH kids back at school, we’ve had word from the Highway Patrol that they want drivers to be mindful that school zones are once again a thing after such an extended lockdown period when 40km/h school zones were not in force.

Wello armed robbery

A WALKER Crescent woman has been injured after a visit to another woman’s home went awry. Police say that at about 3.30pm on October 24, a 28-year-old woman attended a home on Walker Crescent, Wellington, to visit a woman known to her. Police have been told the occupant of the home threatened the 28-year-old woman with a knife while demanding money be transferred into her account.

The occupant allegedly punched, kicked and dragged the woman outside the home before she fled the location on foot.

The victim was taken to Wellington Hospital suffering injuries to her face and wrist and later transferred to Dubbo Base Hospital for further treatment.

Following enquiries, police attended a home on Walker Crescent and arrested a 34-year-old woman who was taken to Wellington Police Station and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

Hazardous burn

A HAZARD reduction burn at the eastern end of Whitewood Road last Saturday afternoon has gone ahead without incident.

The Rural Fire Service activity is part of routine risk management, and while these fires generate smoke, they are necessary in protecting properties and assets during the Bush Fire Danger Period.

Cops swarm Wingewarra

POLICE swarmed Wingewarra Street between Gipps and Fitzroy Street at about 2.30pm last Friday after a fake report that someone had been stabbed. Police confirmed with Dubbo Photo News that the false alarm was called in via phone.

It’s disappointing when emergency services are forced to waste their time responding to false alarms.

The home targeted belongs to former Dubbo mayor Greg Matthews and his wife Rhonda who took to social media to let everyone

know they were shaken, but okay.

“Apparently someone thought it was quite hilarious to call and report that Greg had been stabbed and that we were being held (at) hostage,” Mrs Matthews said in the video she posted, saying it was frightening to have 15 police pounding on the door.

And she had this message for the gutless, cowardly and, yes, anonymous fake-caller: “It wasn’t really funny, you’ve wasted a lot of resources and you’ve caused a lot of stress.

“Don’t know who you are, what grievance you’ve got.

“We’re just going to get on with our lives and Greg is going to run for council, so he’s not afraid to stand up.”

There’s nothing more pathetic than these cowards who hide behind anonymity either in phone calls or via fake social media profiles to inflict stress and fear on other people just going about their lives.

If anyone has any knowledge about who this gutless fool is, please contact Dubbo police.

Break and enter bandit charged

AFTER an horrific reign of terror, police have charged a 41-yearold man following two aggravated

break and enters at the same home in Siren Street, Dubbo.

An unknown man forced entry into the home between 5am and 5.30am on October 20. The 89-year-old female occupant confronted the man who pushed his victim to the ground before he ransacked the home and fled with cash.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

Just before 3am, the following day, police responded to reports that the power had been deliberately cut to the same home on Siren Street and that a person was attempting to gain entry.

Police rushed to the house to find community members who had chased a man from the premises.

The alleged perp was arrested nearby in River Street and taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with two counts of aggravated enter dwelling with intent – knowing people there, two counts of common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Once again, well done to those community members who intervened. Fantastic effort.
