Sunday bowlers rolling up for Chrissy

-

THE big day might be two months away but that hasn’t phased the RSL Sundy Combination Bowlers who are enjoying their time on the greens and praying for the big red fella to arrive on time.

According to Pistol Pete, when Santa does arrive for the celebrations, he will need to check his GPS.

“We’ve moved from the City Bowling Club in Victoria Park to the reinvigorated and artificial turf greens at RSL Sporties in North Dubbo,” he said.

“We are looking forward to gathering at our new home on Saturday December 4th, at about 6-30pm. It’s only 15 bucks a head so great value to devour the banquet provided, have a social drink or two and relax with friends.”

Ever the philosopher, Pistol drew on his huge repertoire of musical knowledge to describe the upcoming occasion.

“Louie Armstrong has it down pat – “what a wonderful world – I think to myself, what a wonderful world.” Results:

Gaye Cottee and Phil Knight 16 d John Mckenzie and Annette Mcmillan 15

“A topsy-turvy game with eight ends each. John and Annette had a two shot lead going into the final end. It should have should have been good enough but Gaye and Phil pulled out all stops to pick up three bowls and nab a memorable win.”

Leo Balstrad (swinger), Bruce Livingston and Pete Ruzans 20 d Leo (swinger), Steve Kelly and Eric Satchell 16

“A game of two halves as the old saying goes. The Houdini effect applied to this game. After eight ends Team Eric looked in total command at 15-zip then Pete’s lot turned in one of the biggest come-backs ever, snatching a most unlikely victory.”

Rob Pfeiffer, Gary Huggins and Col Dover 17 d Sue Mcauley, Nan Hazelton and Greg Brown 15

“Almost but not quite there! Eight shots to the good for Rob, Gary and Col should have been easy for a win, but Greg’s team knuckled down and staged a massive 10 shot retrieval to take the lead by two after 15 ends. However, that was the end of the fight back as Col’s team rallied, scoring four shots on the final end to earn the win.”

Shirley Marchant, Karen Greenhalge and Mel Giddings17 d Ron Mcauley, Peter Bennison, Lionel Ayoub 12

“Another game that had one team forge ahead early only to crumble under sustained pressure. Team Lionel led 11 shots to four at End 10; by End 12 it was 11 apiece but Mel’s lot continued the surge scoring six shots to one to take the game.”

Dave Davis, Paul Woodbridge and Roger Sherwin 19 d Allan Stratford, Judy Knight and Ruby Stockings 7

“A strong performance by Dave, Paul and Roger proved too much for the other mob who only managed seven shots during the 16 end bash.

Helen Emblem, Julie Brown and Col Cottee 29 d Ron Morrison, Cheryl Storch and Alex Rae 11

“Big scoring from team Col was the difference in this game. After a seven shot haul on End 4, they hammered away for the rest of the game, to record a comfortable win.”

Beryl Scott, Pat Sherwin and Kevin Scott 14 d Frank Vaughan, John Cole and Gordon Scott 14

“There has to be at least one closely fought game! ‘Give no quarter, take no quarter’ was the attitude. At least both teams came from the green smiling.”

 Winners – Helen Emblem, Julie Brown, Col Cottee;

 Runners-up – Dave Davis, Paul Woodbridge, Roger Sherwin;

 Resters – Beryl Scott, John Cole, Gary Huggins, Roger Sherwin

Pistol Pete has again reminded bowlers of their obligations.

“It is important that we abide by the rules set by the Gov’ folk, and the requirements by the Club, both Dubbo City and the RSL.
