New U3A courses add to lifelong learning
IF you believe that learning is lifelong, then the University of the Third Age (U3A) is just the thing for you, and there are two brand new courses being added to the smorgasbord of offerings from U3A’S Dubbo chapter this term.
Firstly, there’s Science in the Newspapers, an innovative new course from class leader and experienced teacher, Jackie Walker, which will look at science through the prism of current issues. Participants will be able to explore a range of topics that pertain to our modern world, such as stem cells, global warming, DNA and genetics along with other issues of interest to the group.
The second course is entitled Jazz Improvisation for Beginners – which is self explanatory, and will be delivered by musician and qualified music teacher Steve Parry. In this class, you’ll be able to learn how to improvise on your chosen instrument in a jazz style, or other styles should you prefer.
Participants will be encouraged to bring their instruments to help develop skills in listening, performing and understanding musical structure, enabling improvisation.
Enrolment costs just $20 per year (for as many courses as you like) and new members are always welcome.
To enrol for Science in Newspapers, email adm.u3adubbo@ gmail.com with the subject “science”, and if you’d like to join the music course, send an expression of interest and a brief summary of your musical instrument and experience (or lack thereof) to that same email address.
You’ll be notified by return email if your enrolment has been accepted.
For further information about other courses, send your enquiry via email.
