Atticus has found his forever home
Retired 3-and-ahalf-year-old racing greyhound, Atticus, was adopted three months ago from Greyhounds As Pets NSW Central West program and now lives in Dubbo with his new owner, Justin.
“I came across the Greyhounds As Pets on Facebook, then I was reading their website and looking at dogs that were available. That’s when I saw Atticus – or Arte’s – profile and instantly applied,” Justin said.
“I chose him because of the way he was described, his chill nature. I did a lot of research on the breed, and they do make fantastic pets. Their temperament is so relaxed, and they don’t necessarily need a lot of exercise.”
Justin works full time so the decision to bring a dog into his home meant finding the right dog for him.
“I filled out an online application. They acknowledge your application and then I got a phone call from the regional coordinator for the central west, Leo Hellegers.
“Leo did an interview with me to help me choose the right dog. He said he had a few dogs available for adoption and that we should meet Atticus.
“I drove to Bathurst to meet Arte. I didn’t know what to expect because I haven’t ever adopted a dog before. Leo was there and the previous owner. They told me about his nature and that he had no health issues. Atticus was super sweet. We spent a couple of hours getting to know each other. I walked him around the property a bit.
Once adopted, Atticus was headed to his new home in Dubbo.
“The adoption rate is very reasonable and includes desexing and a lifetime registration.
“I was overwhelmed by how generous Greyhounds As Pets were. They also gave me a starter pack, a collar, a lead, a bed, a toy, bag of food and his first dose of worming and flea treatments.
