Ride into the Christmas spirit
FOR most families it might be a bit too early to think about the excitement and stress of Christmas, but two not-for-profit charities are getting ready for the holiday, for rural children doing it tough.
Doin’ it for Rural Aussie Kids and the Central West Riders have partnered to hold a charity Dice Ride on Sunday, September 11, commencing from Devil’s Hollow Brewery, Dubbo.
For families who want to share their support but not participate in the ride, there will be an opportunity for activities, including a jumping castle, face painting, and giveaways at
the Ploughman’s Rest Tavern at 2pm.
Doin’ it for Rural Aussie Kids founder Jason Owen, grew up in Albert so he is familiar with the complexities and sacrifices rural children are expected to make when it comes to Christmas and other celebrated events.
The charity was established in 2019 and has brought Christmas joy to more than 1600 rural children and families who are doing it tough, along with visiting schools across Australia.
The collaborative event will raise money to deliver Christmas gifts to more children this year.
The ride will approximately be 270km and will end at Wongarbon at 3pm.
“We’re getting a lot of support from Central West Riders along with other foundations, so I think it’s great,” Mr Owen told Dubbo Photo News.
“That’s what’s so cool about being here in regional Australia – everyone wants to help each other.”
He said the riders have held two events for the charity to raise awareness.
Central West Riders president Darrel Harvey says the riders want to support children in any way they can.
“As an individual it’s hard to accomplish something, but as a club it is a lot easier to organise to get together and help support communities,” Mr Harvey said.
The club is hoping to have 70 riders participate in the event with more than $3000 raised.
There are currently 50 active members in the club, but because it is built on a passion of motorbikes, Mr Harvey says people are usually members for life.
“We like to help charities and individuals in need – and this way, we’re doing it,” he said.
The ride will leave Devil’s Hollow Brewery, Dubbo at 9am and finish at the Ploughman’s Rest Tavern, Wongarbon at 3pm on Sunday, September 11.
Registrations for the ride will be available on the day.
Mr Owen does not know if he will attend the day as he is currently on tour.
