Mini-chinatown for one night

-

Spring is that exciting time of the year again as we all want to be enjoying the warmer scented evenings and late sunsets, which also entice us to escape outside, especially with friends, family, and food.

DREAM Fest 2022 with Wellington Arts brings a raft of entertainment across the region and one of the most culturally diverse events is Fong Lees Lane in Wellington.

Here we celebrate the unique history of Wellingtons early days where Chinese and Aboriginal communities worked with the colonial founders to establish a vibrant and thriving community that was responsible for the rapid growth of the economy of Wellington. Today, we get to appreciate the history and diversity of our community from past generations and share the experience with friends, families, and visitors.

A food and celebration extravaganza are about to unfold for the third time in the little one-way lane in Wellingtons Fong Lees Lane, right in the center of town as it becomes a mini-chinatown for one night. This art embellished and iconic side street is closed to traffic and will be jammed full of eateries to entice you. You cannot help but get absorbed into the bustle and throng of the crowd as people jostle along to the music as you follow your nose to find the food stalls of your choice.

This year we bring you, Bull n Smoke brisket smoking BBQ’S, tasty Baan Chang Thai tempters, exotic Yum Yum Indian flavours, delicious and mouthwatering Mexican flavours from the Cactus Café Courtyard, Dowto’s spicy pork with noodles and flavorsome cutlets to walk away with. Weave into this Turkish sweet and savoury flavours, and even foods for the not so adventurous. Our Filipino community present authentic and freshly made products as they complement many other tastes and smells on the evening.

Be sure to be a part of the action and join in the drumming circle, adore the Aboriginal dancers and their fluid moves. We have live music and Dubbo Taiko drummers with Wellington Karate leading the dragon parade.

Be sure to attend a DREAM Fest lantern making workshop in the coming weeks and bring your lantern to join the parade around the street and into the crowd on the night of Fong Lees Lane. Be sure to explore! The action isn’t all in the lane. We have food, beverages and music spread across backyards, and courtyards all tied together by the past dynamic energy of Fong Lees Lane in

Wellington on Friday, October 21. Evening starts at 5.30pm and goes. until the music stops. See you there!!
