Minetec technology incorporated into Cat’s MineStar mining automation solution
Caterpillar has entered into an agreement with Australian mining software group Minetec to have the latter’s proprietary technology incorporated into Cat’s MineStar mining automation solution.
Minetec is a wholly owned subsidiary of industrial technology group Codan and is a supplier of tracking and automation software to the mining industry.
The global licensing and technology development agreement between the two companies is expected to focus on expanding the capabilities of Caterpillar’s MineStar underground and surface mining technology solution through the integration of high-precision tracking, wireless communications, task management technology and proximity detection.
Specifically, Minestar says its proprietary Smarts task management, Trax high-precision tracking and wireless communication, and SafeDetect proximity detection systems will be integrated into an expanded MineStar suite.
“This combination of unique technologies will transform safety and productivity solutions offered for underground mining,” Minestar says.
The two companies also announced that initial trials of the expanded MineStar technology solution will be hosted by Newmont Mining Corporation at its gold mining operation at
Tanami in the Northern Territory.
Newmont will provide valuable additional operational input from its underground hard rock mining applications.
