Contractor Profile: AME Contracting
Australia’s first Volvo EW160E is proving vital for AME Civil Contracting
Queensland company AME Civil Contracting is using Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) excavators for infrastructure projects in Australia. The customised excavator helps the company with detailed excavation projects.
AME Civil Contracting is the first in Australia to add a customised EW160E wheeled excavator from Volvo CE to its fleet, which also includes a Volvo ECR145C excavator. The EW160E offers a range of attachments for a wide range of configurations to offer flexibility in application.
To efficiently carry out detailed excavation works, AME customised the excavator with GPS so it can excavate based on models and plans.
“Our dealer CJD Equipment helped us customise the machine from the factory so it’s a perfect fit for our niche type of construction work,” says AME managing director Mick Schmidt.
“Instead of single tyres, we also customised it with dual tyres, so it doesn’t damage the roadwork, plus it provides more manoeuvrability on job sites.”
The EW160E was also customised with a wider undercarriage of 2,750mm. The standard EW160E is equipped with a Volvo D6J engine that delivers up to 115kW gross power and has maximum digging reach of 9.3m.
The EW160E also offers a wide range of boom and arm options to expand its capabilities. The grapple manoeuvrer connection on the wheeled excavator enables easy exchange of tools.
On the EW160E, oil is redirected directly to the attachment instead of going to the cylinder, which enables the operator to steer the attachment with the right-hand joystick.
AME Civil Contracting purchased its fleet of Volvo machines from CJD Equipment, Volvo CE’s long-time dealer partner in Australia.
HARD AT WORK
For AME, the EW160E works an average of nine hours daily and excavates up to 60 tons per hour on projects like highway upgrades, road replacements and bridge improvements.
The EW160WE is typically used for detailed excavation works for road widening and pavement upgrades.
“The first day I drove the EW160E, I knew I had a spectacular machine in my hand,” says Schmidt.
“When it comes to Volvo machines, I don’t have to compromise on quality. The EW160E is everything I wanted – it is stable, delivers good fuel savings, functions very smoothly, ensures efficient operations. Plus, our operators love to drive the machines as they offer good visibility and is easy to operate.”
