Roller derby back on track

GET back on your skates – the roller derby season is starting this month.

Perth Roller Derby will roll out the first game of its 2020 season when the Bloody Sundaes and the Mistresses of Mayhem return to the track.

Both teams have a lot to prove; after being disappointed in at last year’s grand final, the Mayhems are keen to take down reigning champs the Sundaes.

Perth Roller Derby was formed in 2008 and has competed internationally for the past two years.

The game consists of two 30-minute halves, which comprise a series of 2-minute ‘jams’.

Both teams designate a player, the ‘ jammer’, who scores points by lapping opposing team members as they attempt to block the ‘jammer’.

Doors for the game open at 6.30pm at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre on Saturday, February 22.

All ages are welcome; there will be a bake sale and a fully licensed bar area for those 18+.

Tickets are available online from perthrollerderby.com.au or from Lucky Skates.

Prices from $15 for adults and $8 for children.
