STAGE LIGHT’S LAST GLEAMING
THE Black Swan Theatre in Perth has postponed its 2020 season.
The only production it is now scheduled to hold is
Oklahoma! in November. The closure is intended to help stop the spread of the coronavirus but it has raised concerns for the sector’s long term viability.
A statement from the theatre said many people would suffer financially, especially its casual workforce and freelancers.
It would look at new ways to bring theatre to audiences to keep theatre staff employed.
“We will remain purposeful and connected,” artistic director Clare Watson said.
“While we may be required to distance ourselves physically, we want to ensure that people are connected creatively.
“In the meantime, we wish to thank our patrons and our community for their support and understanding.”
Ticket holders to cancelled events can receive refunds.
Patrons have been encouraged to donate the value of their ticket back to Black Swan as a taxdeductible contribution.
