Council hopefuls step up
FORMER Bayswater North ward councillors Michelle Sutherland (pictured) and Mike Anderton head a pool of five candidates vying for a vacant position to be decided in September.
They are joined by 42year-old first-time candidate Greig Maitland, tax agent Michelle Hesford and long-time City of Bayswater resident Richard Hall.
Brent Fleeton resigned from his position, which he held since 2015, in June.
Mrs Sutherland, the wife of former Mt Lawley MLA Michael Sutherland, served as a councillor from 2013 to 2017 before losing her seat at the October 2017 ordinary election.
Mr Anderton, a Bendigo Community Bank company secretary and a Noranda business owner, was on council from 2007 to 2015.
Mr Maitland pledged to fight to have residents' voices heard on the Noranda Nursery site redevelopment.
Ms Hesford lived in the North ward for 20 years and wanted to focus on stopping council waste and unnecessary spending.
Mr Hall has lived in the City for his whole life and attended Maylands Primary School and John Forrest Senior High School.
