Bee back from the brink

A NA­TIVE bee pre­sumed ex­tinct since 1994 has been re­dis­cov­ered af­ter a spec­i­men was col­lected in banksia wood­land at Pin­jar. The Dou­glas’s broad-headed bee, Hes­pe­r­o­col­letes dou­glasi, which was only known to ex­ist on Rot­tnest Is­land be­fore pre­sumed ex­tinct, has now been added to the list of crit­i­cally en­dan­gered species in WA ap­proved by En­vi­ron­ment Min­is­ter Stephen Daw­son.
