Families living in the Town of Bassendean are expected to have access to a new nature-based playground at Mary Crescent Reserve playground in 2019.

AN ageing playground at Mary Crescent Reserve in Eden Hill will be revamped into a nature-based playground by February 2019.

At last month’s meeting, Bassendean Council voted unanimously to grant landscaping company Phase3 Landscape Construction Pty Ltd the tender to supply, install and construct the playground.

In July, the council allocated $250,000 in capital funds towards the project as part of the 2018-19 budget. While Phase3 was yet to develop design plans for the district-wide playground, the installation of play equipment was expected to take about 12 weeks.

Mayor Renee McLennan said some equipment would be removed from the existing playground while some would remain and be added. The basketball backboard, hoop and swings are planned to stay.

Community development director Graeme Haggart said the Town would hold a launch event in February next year.
