Praise for out­go­ing EMRC chief ex­ec­u­tive

EAST­ERN Met­ro­pol­i­tan Re­gional Coun­cil chief ex­ec­u­tive Pe­ter Sch­nei­der has re­signed from his po­si­tion af­ter nine years at the helm.

The coun­cil pro­vides ser­vices in waste man­age­ment, re­source re­cov­ery, en­vi­ron­men­tal man­age­ment and re­gional de­vel­op­ment for mem­ber coun­cils.

Mem­ber coun­cils in­clude the cities of Bayswa­ter, Swan, Bel­mont and Kala­munda, Town of Bassendean and Shire of Mun­dar­ing.

Mr Sch­nei­der re­signed on Novem­ber 2 and has given a three-month res­ig­na­tion no­tice.

He took over the chief ex­ec­u­tive po­si­tion af­ter serv­ing as the cor­po­rate ser­vices ex­ec­u­tive man­ager and deputy chief ex­ec­u­tive from April 2006 to Sep­tem­ber 2009.

He pre­vi­ously worked as the cor­po­rate ser­vices direc­tor at the City of Joon­dalup from Oc­to­ber 2002 to April 2006.

Chair­man and Swan coun­cil­lor David McDon­nell thanked Mr Sch­nei­der for his con­tri­bu­tion to the coun­cil.

“Pe­ter’s lead­er­ship co­in­cided with a pe­riod of growth in the EMRC’s core waste man­age­ment ser­vices, which it man­ages on be­half of its six mem­ber coun­cils,” he said.

“Dur­ing this time, we also con­ducted a suc­cess­ful ten­der for the Re­source Re­cov­ery Fa­cil­ity.

“The EMRC’s role as ad­vo­cate for Perth’s east­ern re­gion also ex­panded with the de­vel­op­ment of sev­eral re­gional ini­tia­tives de­signed to pro­mote sus­tain­able eco­nomic growth and qual­ity of life for Perth’s east­ern re­gion.

“I would like to pay tribute to Pe­ter’s many achieve­ments as chief ex­ec­u­tive, thank him for his out­stand­ing ser­vice and give him and his fam­ily our very best wishes for a suc­cess­ful fu­ture.”
