Fashion and videogames don’t often meet, but when they do, the effect is frequently beautiful. FinalFantasy series artist Yoshitaka Amano has landed the cover of Vogue Italia with a stunning rendition of model Lindsey Wixson-Young, who appears almost faelike in a blue Gucci gown. In this issue, fashion illustrations fill pages in place of the usual photography which, due to the environmental cost of flying photographers to various places across the globe, posits a more sustainable approach to their journalism. We can’t help but imagine what a future in which powerful game engines manage to simulate digital runway shows might mean for the fashion industry – Vogue, we’re always on the other end of the phone.
