Flying solo

Zeng believes being a solo dev has enabled him to realise a singular vision. “It is definitely easier creating the game that you want to create, when you are the one with creative control,” he says. Going solo has its downsides, however. The pressures of time and the need to use pre-made assets early on resulted in Zeng using some pirated 3D models, which he had to replace. “Creating triple-A assets is honestly extremely hard work,” he says. “Bright Memory has a lot of art resources I bought in the Unreal Store and other channels. Some 3D model websites do not mention if they allow commercial use. Indie developers should check the licensing informatio­n when they look for 3D art models.”
