Any excuse for another trip into Area X is welcome around these parts, and while Iam8bit’s vinyl might not offer the full particleeffect magnificence of the game’s visuals – though it is housed in a gorgeous jacket designed by Cory Schmitz – Hydelic’s soundtrack is more than enough to transport you there, on those days when donning a VR headset feels too much like work. Five of this LP’s 12 tracks have never been released outside of the game, apparently. If that reads like we’re justifying an unnecessary purchase to ourselves, well, you’re entitled to your opinion. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to explore the outer edges of consciousness one more time.
