VISIBILITY PROBLEM
Developers need to know they can enter their work
While film festivals are embracing games within their official selections, many developers remain unaware of this broadening in scope, and how it could benefit them. Even creators with a background in film, who have more knowledge of these events, are surprised to hear it’s possible for their game to be featured. “It wasn’t really part of the strategy to do this, because I never assumed that a game would be in the Venice Film Festival in competition,” Jörg Tittel admits. “We had a meeting with HTC and Vive and they said, ‘You guys should really propose it’. We weren’t accepted into the festival until six weeks [before the start of Venice Film Festival].”
