But while it will be possible to spend real money to acquire an item that lets you skip the story – thereby missing out on some of the finest tales ever told in a Final Fantasy game – Yoshida would naturally prefer them not to do this. “In other MMOs, you might find that as soon as a new expansion releases, no one is playing content from the older expansion, but for FFXIV, this isn’t the case,” he says, in reference to the Duty Roulettes that reward veterans who match with newcomers in older dungeons. “If anything, existing players would talk to those new players, and just reassure them that they don’t really have to rush.”
