Uneasy riders

You can steer your carriage manually – worth doing to smash obstacles that bestow random rewards – but it will also drive itself. The road forks regularly, as indicated by a map dotted with question marks, but always culminates in a Guardian boss just before the next inn. Some branches lead to field hospitals or stores, others to gaps in reality or three-tier monster lairs that house the choicest treasures, including vehicle accessories that let you carry more or scout map nodes. Additional concerns include random blockades and a ‘Loathing’ world state that amplifies the terrors ahead. Party members may have opinions on which route to take, incurring stress when ignored, while characters who despise each other will bicker continually inside the wagon – even, on occasion, coming to blows.
