Maurin says the Franklin expedition was an important focus at the start of production, but this changed. “After spending a lot of time chatting with Inuits and exchanging about what the game was going to be, we realised they didn’t find the Franklin expedition as interesting as we did, because that’s a very colonialist way to consider this part of the world – only being interested in northern Canada because of the Franklin expedition. You overlook the civilisation that was here for centuries before European people ventured into those territories. So the Franklin expedition lost some of its weight in our story, in favour of other elements that were more Inuit sourced.”
