BULLET TIME
How gun support proved a case of light at the end of the tunnel
Universal lightgun support is a marquee feature of RGB-Pi OS4 – but if embracing the displays for which they were built sounds like a silver bullet for those troublesome peripherals, think again. RGB-Pi’s weapon of choice was Namco’s GunCon2, but after so many years of LCDimposed exile, little had been done to make one work with Linux. “This guy called Beardypig had managed to reverseengineer a GunCon3,” aTg recalls, “but that model required a sensor bar like the Wii Remote, which means constant calibrations.” An eventual collaboration yielded open-source GunCon2 drivers – now available to any project.
