Hyper Meteor

There’s a healthy variety within Playdate’s debut season lineup, so it’s surprising that two games should involve you piloting a spacecraft using the crank. Hyper Meteor is marginally the lesser of the two, though it’s still a robustly entertaining twist on Asteroids. Here, the titular space rocks are half-black, halfwhite: you must avoid their dark side and ram them on the light to split them in two, though doing so makes them move and spin faster. A combo system encourages you to take risks; when space gets tight, you can use the wraparound arena to your advantage, or else deploy a smartbomb to clear the screen.
