Saturday Edition

Playdate’s 1bit aesthetic adds to the sinister atmosphere of this gripping science-fiction adventure, in which a man gets drawn into a series of disappearances – possibly linked to an alien abduction in his past. If that sounds like an X-Files episode, its aura of small-town strangeness is more David Lynch, with realistic sound design grounding the weirder flourishes. The UI design is great: interactive objects are highlighted (and animated) in picture-in-picture close-ups as you pass by, as are people’s faces, while conversation topics are scrawled on paper that crumples when you’ve exhausted the dialogue around them.
