CHAOS THEORY

-

Jack’s determination to find and kill Chaos has already been widely mocked prior to the game’s release, yet there’s the kernel of something more intriguing at the heart of his obsession. Early on, one character suggests that people need evil to have some kind of tangible form, such that we might be able to hope that it can be defeated. Yet as with much of Stranger Of Paradise’s story, this idea is barely developed. Instead we get a plot that involves interdimensional trickery as a thin excuse for paying lip service to much-loved Final Fantasy locations (and their musical themes), while most in-game cinematics amount to little more than gruff one-liners, grunts and fist bumps between the group. Things do eventually come to a head, but by this late stage, all but the most committed lore gourmands will probably have lost interest.
