A handful of this year's industry influencers reveal what is on their Santa list.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS MANAGING DIRECTOR/PRINCIPAL, @HOME PROPERTY MANAGEMENT What's on your Christmas list?

Food, wine, family and fun! What I love most about Christmas is having more time to spend with the people I love, enjoying the great weather and relaxing. It's a time we property managers really need to recharge ready for peak season, where the workload generally increases significantly.

What could Santa do for the real estate industry?

He could take the after-hours calls if he has nothing better to do! This year we're closing the doors over Christmas and I've put my hand up to take care of the after-hours calls so that our team can enjoy the break and recharge. I hope Santa is kind to me for being a good boss.

Will you be making any New Year's resolutions?

To continue to work on my health and fitness. This past year I've finally found some balance in my life and prioritised my health. I'm really feeling the benefits of being fit and strong, so hope to continue and hold the motivation.

What is one goal you've set yourself for 2019?

To take another overseas holiday. For the first time in over 10 years, Matt and I travelled overseas this year to Europe for just over three weeks. It made us realise that there's so much to see and do in life. We're so confident in our team now that we can finally enjoy the time and completely switch off. New Zealand is high on the list.

What was your greatest achievement in 2018?

Developing my team and supporting them in achieving some outstanding personal goals. Two of my team members were recognised on a national level with awards and we have three team members now holding diploma qualifications. I get so much satisfaction mentoring and leading others, and now my focus is to develop leaders within the business.

VASILI HADZELLIS MANAGING DIRECTOR, CORE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT CONSULTING What's on your Christmas list?

First and foremost, Christmas dinner with my mum and family (she's Italian, so the food will be aplenty), spending time with my two little nieces, a little holiday down the south coast soaking up the sun on the beach with close friends, then recharged, energised and ready to go for a big 2019!

What could Santa do for the real estate industry?

Introduce more innovative technology platforms specifically for the property management industry that bring efficiency and automation for property managers. I see people get bogged down by a lot of tasks that should be automated. This would free them up to focus more on providing a delightful customer service experience and communicating more with their landlords and tenants.

Will you be making any New Year's resolutions?

I tend not to make New Year's resolutions but instead use the New Year to reflect on all I've achieved. I reflect on everything over the past year I have to be grateful for, write it all down and then have it to access throughout the year in case I need a little reminder if I'm not having a 10/10 day. I then look at setting intentions for the year… I tend to find that intentions go deeper and focus on what is really important to me.

What is one goal you've set yourself for 2019?

A few of my intentions for 2019: I want to look and feel fabulous in a tailored suit, explore Italy and Greece as a local, not as a tourist, and continue my mission in changing property management for good.

What was your greatest achievement of 2018?

At the beginning of 2018 I set out to speak at five Industry and property management conferences, and at last count I'd spoken at 15 conferences across Australia. I am so humbled and thankful.

HAYLEY MITCHELL DIRECTOR, MITCHELL PROPERTY TRAINING What's on your Christmas list?

I really need to start planning for Christmas; a couple more busy weeks then I'll get stuck into it. With two small kids, Christmas is no longer about us – it's all about them. I'm looking forward to having my first Christmas off work in about 20 years!

What could Santa do for the real estate industry?

With the upcoming changes to the RTA, I wish Santa could change some of the new legislation. Like keeping the 120 days' no-reason notice to vacate and removing the restriction on the end of fixed-term notice to vacate to the initial lease term.

Will you be making any New Year's resolutions?

Not really, but I'll be trying to be a bit healthier in 2019. Being on the road a lot, sometimes I tend not to eat as well or exercise as much as I should.

What is one goal you've set yourself for 2019?

To be kind to myself and to others. I want to be more protective of my time and not allow myself to wear myself out. This means at least one day a week to work from home on the business, rather than in the business.

What was your greatest achievement in 2018?

Selling my rent roll, allowing myself time to slow down a bit and not feel guilty about it. Also buying a caravan and taking breaks with my family. We'll be incorporating training and family caravan trips in 2019 across regional Victoria and into other states as well in the future.
