WELCOME TO BROW REHAB

-

Now you’ve got your perfect brow inspo, it’s time to sort out the details. Hannah Terrett, Benefit’s national brow artist, solves the biggest blunders standing between you and your dream duo.

YOU’VE OVER-PLUCKED…

HANNAH SAYS: Incorporate a brow-volumising product into your routine to add extra body and texture while you’re waiting for your brows to grow.

ELLE SAYS: Try a brush-on fibre product, which will deposit micro hair-like particles to bulk up sparse strands. The gel formula will also smooth and shape. TRY Brow Now Volumizing Brow Tint, $38, Estée Lauder, 1800 061 326 (1); More Brows, $18, Modelco, modelcocosmetics.com (2); Gimme Brow, $39, Benefit, benefitcosmetics.com/ au (3)

YOU SUFFER PTSD FROM A WAX GONE WRONG…

HANNAH SAYS: If wax makes you nervous, ask for tweezing instead. A trained aesthetician should also be able to recognise when not to wax, like if you’ve recently had a peel or are using particularly active skincare.

ELLE SAYS: Do your research, find a reputable brow artist and communicate exactly what you want. Even if it’s just cleaning up a few of the rogue strands, a professional job can actually make brows look thicker.

ONE BROW IS LONGER THAN THE OTHER…

HANNAH SAYS: Brow-tinting can add length to the end of a brow where hairs tend to be lighter and finer. The tint will also pick up soft, fine vellus hair that, when dyed, will create length and shape.

ELLE SAYS: Besides a tint, apply tiny strokes of a super-fine brow pencil to mimic the appearance of hair. TRY Brows On Point Micro Pencil, $25, Billion Dollar Brows, mecca.com.au (4)

YOUR BROWS ARE NEAR-INVISIBLE BLONDE…

HANNAH SAYS: Invest in having your eyebrows professionally tinted. The right shade will add richness to the brow while giving it an overall healthy, full appearance.

ELLE SAYS: It’s best to leave this one to the pros. Benefit counters at Myer offer a $17 add-on tint, while celebrity brow artist Amy Jean Linnehan (her Eye Couture studios have outposts in Sydney, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Brisbane) includes a tint with her shaping service, which starts from $75 (amyjean.com.au).

OOPS, YOUR BROWS ARE LOOKING TOO DARK…

HANNAH SAYS: Carefully rub a mix of lemon juice and water over the tint to help fade out the colour within 24 hours of it being applied.

ELLE SAYS: Use a gentle exfoliator through the brow to remove any dye that may have adhered to skin. When shading, use a product that softens the look of too-dark arches with subtle highlights. TRY 3D Browtones, $42, Benefit, benefitcosmetics.com/ au (5)

YOU HAVE BUSHY BROWS THAT GROW LONG…

HANNAH SAYS: Get them trimmed at your next shaping session. And between appointments, keep brows in check with a setting gel or wax.

ELLE SAYS: A wax product will tame unruly strands, setting them in place. Apply with a slanted brush and smooth in the direction hair grows. TRY Bulletproof Brows, $47, Too Faced, mecca.com.au (6); Long-wear Brow Gel, $45, Bobbi Brown, bobbibrown.com.au (7)

YOU REQUIRE 12 PRODUCTS AND TWO YOUTUBE TUTORIALS TO PERFECT YOUR BROWS…

HANNAH SAYS: Let your natural shape be your guide and avoid harsh lines and angles. Soften the look of strong brows by drawing a highlighter under the arch to enhance dimension and illuminate, creating a soft contrast with a subtle finish.

ELLE SAYS: If you want to experiment with trends, stick to shoes. When it comes to brows, always err on the side of soft and natural and you’ll never regret a selfie again. Add a blendable highlighter to your brow product line-up and toss the ones you could do without. TRY Brow + Eye Duo Highlighter, $17,

Modelco, modelcocosmetics.com (8); High Brow Creamy Brow Highlighting Pencil, $39, Benefit, benefitcosmetics.com/ au (9) 6 7
